Facebook News Feed Update Builds Reach and Brings Brands Together
One of the biggest advantages for having a presence on Facebook has always been the opportunity to reach a vast network of over one billion active users.
Now, marketers will be happy to note that a new update to the Facebook News Feed will bring them even closer to both customers and brands on the network. In light of a new algorithm change made to Facebook’s News Feed on Tuesday, when a Page (whether it be a brand or a celebrity) tags another Page in a post, the content may automatically publish on both Pages.
This has been a long-standing feature between users. If you tag someone in a photo, that photo shows up on that user’s page, but now the feature if officially available for Pages.
Facebook explains that they received great feedback after testing the feature with users. And a few factors will be considered before the content is published. Facebook typically displays posts that are getting the most engagement (likes, comments, shares) on the News Feed. With the new update, brands will be able to extend their reach a little further to new users by publishing posts tagged with another brand or celebrity figure.
Here’s an example: We love Girl Scout cookies at Small Screen Producer.
If there are users who like both Small Screen Producer and Girl Scouts of America, Facebook knows that these pages are connected. When Small Screen Producer makes a post about how Girl Scout peanut butter patties are the perfect mid-afternoon snack and tags Girl Scouts of America, and Facebook sees a high number of likes and comments made by fans of Small Screen Producer and Girl Scouts, it’s an indication that it may be relevant for those who’ve only liked Girl Scouts of America. Facebook says that the new feature will capture user attention for topics they’ve already expressed interest in, making content more relevant and appealing to the Facebook users.
