What is Google Now?
Google is improving the way people can benefit from using them as their go-to search engine. Most recently, the creative master minds at Google created Knowledge Graph. The Knowledge Graph of Google search enhances and optimizes the way you search on the internet. Here are just a few ways Knowledge Graph is transforming search:
- Search results will now include a sidebar which allows you to choose from the various meanings of the term you searched for.
- A summary of relevant information related to your query will also pop up in the sidebar when multiple meanings are not applicable.
The Google Knowledge Graph also powers the voice program Google Now which is a part of Android 4.1, or Jelly Bean, for Android devices. Google Now is claimed to mirror what Siri does for Apple, but instead it’s a built-in assistant that delivers Google search-based answers to voiced questions.
“When the user enters a query, the software will determine whether to perform a conventional Google search or process the query with Google Now. When the latter occurs, the user sees a “card” that displays a specially formatted response consisting of text and graphical elements” says Ryan Paul of arsTechnica.
These cards include: traffic, weather, places, public transit, flights, sports, upcoming appointments, translation, currency and “time back home.” You can edit the data and access settings to turn off a card or remove it from your Google Now interface. The cards will appear in reaction to your searches and location behavior, so Google will bring you the right information. Also unlike Siri, Google Now offers the option of typing queries (Siri is voice only) and when Google Now can’t answer a factual query, it displays the results of a Google search for the query phrase.
